Brow Removal

What is Saline Tattoo Removal?

A process that uses a saline solution to breakdown the pigment in your tattoo.

The saline solution is deposited into the tattooed area using a small tattoo needle. The solution breaks down the ink pigment, allowing the body to naturally extract them. The tattoo will gradually disappear over the course of several weeks. Saline tattoo removal is generally well tolerated by most people with only a few possible side effects. It is typically considered safe for all skin types.

FAQ

  • How does it work?

A needle is used to create tiny openings in the skin through which the saline solution enters and an osmotic process to commence. The process causes the ink pigments to move towards the surface of the skin. At the surface of the skin the pigment is captured in the scab as the skin heals over. When the scab naturally flakes away the pigment is removed with it. Repetition of this process causes the appearance of the brow tattoo to lighten significantly, as more and more pigment is released.

  • How will I look immediately after the session?

The brows can look darker before they look lighter. This is due to the pigment rising to the surface of the skin where it will contribute to the scab formation. Skin may be red, tender, swollen on and around the brow settling down across the next 24 hours.

  • Does it hurt?

Topical numbing cream is used to minimise discomfort. A slight stinging sensation may occur as the saline solution penetrates the skin.

  • How many sessions are required?

A minimum of two sessions are required. During your initial consultation a thorough history of your brow tattoo will be reviewed to ascertain how easily the old pigment can be extracted. After the first two sessions the brows will be assessed. Depending on your brow goals, further sessions can be scheduled, or your next brow treatment can commence, or you can happily end the sessions there.

  • How long between each session?

A second treatment will be carried out after 6-8 weeks during which the old brow tattoo will continue to fade. It is important to allow the skin to fully heal between each session to avoid causing trauma to the skin tissue. An assessment of the skin’s healing will be held at the start of each appointment.

  • Is this removal 100% guaranteed?

Tattoo removal is a treatment that requires the body to do its biological part in the process. For this reason we cannot guarantee complete removal of all pigment during the healing process. A percentage of the pigment is removed with each session. An honest assessment is provided during your consultation.

The First 48 hours

It is very important to allow the skin to dry out for the first 48hours after your session:

  • No washing.

  • No sweating.

  • No skin creams of any kind, natural or otherwise.

  • No touching

  • Clean pillowcase

  • Prevent hair from rubbing across the area.

  • Stay hydrated

Why? During this period, as the skin is drying out, the pigment from your brows is starting to form a scab. When this scab naturally flakes away it removes pigment with it, providing optimal results and less sessions. The formation of the scab is also important to minimise the risk of secondary infection.

After 48 hours

A dried skin scab will now have formed. Depending on your skin type this can range from a thin, superficial scab to a thicker scab.

  • Do not disrupt the scabbing process

  • Light, gentle cleansing of the area is ok

  • Option to apply Cavilion cream as directed by Daniella

  • Do not apply any other skin creams, natural or otherwise*

*For those with melanin-rich skin & skin prone to hyperpigmentation:

Apply Cavilon cream every 2-3 days until the skin settles back into its normal complexion. Use a rice-grain size amount of Cavilon cream and lightly apply on and around each brow. Please do not use any other creams, natural or otherwise.

Aftercare FAQ’s

  • My eye area has swollen

Occasionally, for individuals prone to swelling, the eye area may swell slightly during the first 48hours. This is because the body’s natural healing response is to flood the area with lymph and swell. However, since the brow area has been deliberately dried out with the saline solution, the lymph gathers around the eye area, swelling there instead.

The swelling will be naturally reabsorbed by the body over the next 12-24 hours. During this time it is advisable to be cautious with any food sensitivities as your immune system may be heightend.

  • My skin has become wet, red or sore

This is normally due to unsuitable products being used on the treated area, against the direction in provided in the aftercare instructions. It’s crucial to foIlow the aftercare.

Gently clean the area with a clean paper towel and saline solution (one that you might use for cleaning piercings). Allow the area to naturally dry out again. Sleep on clean pillowcases and avoid touching the area or having hair rub across it.

Once the skin has fully healed resume gentle skincare. You may need to use a scar repair cream if the area was wet, red or sore for any length of time as residual redness may take up to 6 months to normalise.

  • It feels a little itchy, with some light bumps?

This can occur around 6 weeks after your treatment. This is likely the start of a reaction to the tattoo ink pigment particles as they rise up towards the skin surface. Tattoo ink pigment degrades over time inside the skin. So although you may not have had an allergic reaction during the implantation of the ink for your brows, as it’s particles rise up through the skin, it may cause a reaction.

Do not scratch or apply creams. This can make it worse. A course of anti-histamine tablets for 14 days is the best first response. Only use an anti-histamine cream if your skin is completely healed and fully intact.
